Our Enrichment Programs …
Enrichment programs in the arts and sciences at St. Anastasia Catholic School allow students to expand their interests, experience various forms of discipline, and have fun. Our extended arts and science programs include:
ARTS
Gateway to Art: This program gives students an overview of many great artists and artwork in many eras around the world. Each session focuses on a tutorial on the artist and their style. Then students are given an opportunity to create their own work of art using the same methods and ideas of the artist. A year-end art show displays a sampling of the student’s work.
Choir: Grades one through five are eligible to participate in an after-school choir program. Students learn several Christian songs from liturgies, musical plays and American folk. Choir students sing at the first Sunday 9 a.m. mass with the general choir.
Musical: Since 2000, St. Anastasia Catholic School has performed a school musical. A new musical is announced at the beginning of the year, and students from fifth through eighth grade are allowed to audition and participate.
Creative Writing Program: a writing enrichment program in the form of poetry is taught three times a year. All grades participate and write stylized poems in different themes and genres. Several of the poems are selected and published in a book given to each family at the end of the school year.
Performing Arts: Our students have an opportunity to display their talents each year in our annual Talent Show and Performing Arts Showcase. The Talent Show is for grades K-3 and the Performing Arts Showcase is for grades 4-8. Students with musical talents, dance, and performance skits are invited to audition and perform.
Christmas Program: An annual Christmas program includes performances from every grade and the student choir. Families and friends are invited to the event that ends with the spirited song, “It’s Christmas Vacation!”
Renaissance Festival: Seventh grade students study the Renaissance time period in Europe and complete their studies with a Shakespearian performance for the school and a Renaissance styled festival.
SCIENCES
Science Fair: The science fair is for grades 3-8. Students create projects based on scientific theory and discussion. Judges from LMU rate the projects and award the winners. In grades 6-8, the first through third place winners as well as the honorable mention winners are eligible to compete in the Los Angeles County Science fair.
