• Dear Parents,
Blessings on this beautiful cool October evening!  Wow!  What a difference a week makes!  Though sadly...it is only 6:20 and the sun is getting ready to set.  I love the long summer days!
So, let's get started with all the exciting events happening this week:
NO SCHOOL tomorrow:  The faculty/staff are on a retreat!  Please pray for us as we will all be praying for you!
Tuesday is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi
    and also
     Katie Hurley, LCSW Author of
     "The Happy Kid Handbook"
    speaking on
How to Raise Joyful Children in a Stressful World
    Thursday, October 6, 2016
    7:00 to 8:30 pm
    at St. Anastasia Catholic Church
Friday -- MASS please make sure your child wears mass dress (don't forget belts!)
This week in Religion we will continue talking about God's LOVE for us and as you can see in your child's folder we are working on the Act of Contrition!  Please feel free to practice with your child!  I have several children who are proficient at it already!  Way to GO!  In Math, we are wrapping up Chapter 3 -- expanded form and will begin Chapter 4 this week.  We will be taking another word test this week!  Handwriting is bringing us closer to CURSIVE!!!!  As you can see I focus on the student practicing his/her letters.  They do not need to be perfect, as long as they are trying!  In Reading we are each taking charge of our own reading -- fluency, stamina, and comprehension!  As you read with your child, I am hoping that you are seeing and increased level of fluency and comprehension!  Don't be afraid to ask your child questions like:  "What's happened so far?" How about..."Stop, retell and then reread!"  This is a really exciting year where we are focusing on the individual reading level of each child!  THINK about the story!  Don't just read -- go further!  I am hoping and praying that you are reading with your child every night!  Have them read to you, you read to them, share the book together, etc.  There are so many exciting options available to you!  We are also working on Character analysis in reading and English!  In phonics, we are working on short a and short i sounds...working in conjunction with word work and Reading!  In Science on Friday we were bats trying to find our pups through our sense of smell and sound!  It was really exciting and fun!
This is Respect Life Month!  Please bring diapers and wipes and I will bring them to the church and hopefully we can fill up the cribs - several times!  This will go on for the month of October!
AND as October is now here!  We will have another STAR progress monitoring assessment!  This will help me see how each student is progressing.
Okay, I think that's enough for today!  Blessings and peace!  Ms. Scaltrito
