Intermediate School Program

The intermediate grades (3-5) are an exciting time for students. Students in this level use  the foundational skills they learned in the primary level and start to discover what they can do. They are more independent and begin to diversify their interests as they work with new concepts and develop more complex skills. To further support this growth, students at the intermediate level begin to have opportunities to participate in school activities such as team sports, student council, school clubs, and school plays. At this level a focus on developing organizational and study skills, working independently and in groups, digital citizenship and being good stewards of God’s creation help prepare the students for middle school.

5th Grade

In fifth grade there is a focus on developing good study skills and work habits to support student learning as they become more and more independent. Fifth graders will apply the skills and knowledge learned in the previous years to analyze and solve problems not just in Math but across the curriculum. Students will further develop their writing skills for a variety of purposes,  giving appropriate details to support their work. As confident readers, fifth graders explore different genres of writing which builds their vocabulary, strengthens their reading comprehension and allows them to appreciate different types of books. They are given many opportunities to practice communication skills to become confident presenters and speakers. Our Catholic faith is an integral part of all learning. There is an emphasis on Christian values to guide them with making decisions throughout the day. Along with that students are recognizing their personal gifts and blessings and how to use them to help others and the world.
