School Project - Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
Fresh Air, Cool Kids – Creating the Perfect Place to Learn
HVAC System for St. Anastasia's School Building
We are excited to announce the addition of HVAC to St. Anastasia!Creating a safe, comfortable, and healthy learning environment is fundamental to achieving our mission of academic excellence and nurturing the personal development of every student. However, our school building, constructed in 1955, lacks the modern ventilation systems necessary to meet today’s standards for air quality and temperature control. Addressing this critical need by installing an HVAC system will not only enhance the well-being of our students and staff but also establish an environment that supports focused learning, productivity, and growth.
The Need for HVAC
Since its construction in 1955, our school building and classrooms have seen many updates such as new flooring, updated middle school classrooms and security updates. The time has come to make one of the most significant updates by installing an HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system. The need to install HVAC has only become more than apparent over time. In the last 5 years alone, we have seen the world change with the COVID pandemic, and the importance of controlling the air quality we breathe every day. The increased awareness of poor air quality as air pollutants are on the rise. Heat advisories are also becoming more frequent, causing administration to consider closing the school if it’s too hot in the classrooms.
Poor Air Quality:
The Impact of HVAC Upgrades
- We do not have a system to adequately remove allergens, pollutants, and airborne contaminants, leading to increased health risks for students and staff.
- Outdoor air quality dictates if we can open the classroom windows, which is currently the only option for ventilating the classrooms
- We are unable to adequately control the temperature in the classrooms, disrupting the learning process.
- Certain areas of the school experience extreme temperature variations, leading to uneven energy consumption and higher utility costs.
- The only means to ventilate the building is by opening the doors and windows, leaving the school building vulnerable to outside intrusions.
- The ballistic resistant film on the windows is rendered useless when the windows are left open during the school day, to help keep the classrooms cool on hot days.
Investing in a new, modern HVAC system will have a transformative impact on our school by addressing critical issues and creating a healthier, more productive environment for our students, faculty and staff.
- Advanced filtration and ventilation will reduce allergens, dust, and airborne pathogens, promoting better health and reducing absenteeism due to illness.
- A modern system will provide reliable temperature control across all areas of the building, ensuring that students and staff can focus on learning without distractions caused by discomfort.
- Up-to-date ventilation systems will support our ability to respond to public health concerns, providing a safer environment for our school community.
Project Scope and Cost
The proposed HVAC upgrade will include the following components:
- Updating existing electrical systems to support HVAC system.
- Installation of energy-efficient heating and cooling units in each classroom and office
- Separate thermostats and controls in each room for optimal efficiency.
- Ongoing maintenance of each unit.
Estimated Project Cost: $500,000
Funding Gap: $100,000
This is one of the most significant investments we have planned for our school.
Thanks to the Called to Renew campaign through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, we have already secured $200,000 in pledges to put towards the project. We are applying for grants as well, and the school is also committed to using limited reserved funds for this, but we need your help to fund the gap.
Consider donating today, and be sure to check with your company to find out about Corporate Matching Programs, too!
